Bible Journaling: Lenten Study

Welcome to the first official Bible Journaling for Tuesdays to Create!

Bible Journaling-Tuesdays to Create is a Bible Journaling Challenge that is designed to help you dig into God’s Word! This series is a Lenten study. Every week you have a video challenge to watch, Bible journaling questions to answer, and an art prompt to follow based on Scripture. You have the whole week to finish the challenge!

Each week we are going to be mixing it up and the challenges we will be doing will sometimes be very personal, so the answers will vary from person to person. Other times, we will all be working on creating the same thing!

At the beginning of every month, I will prayfully consider our topic for the month and announce it on the first Tuesday, which happens to be today! February’s topic is:

In the Quiet

With Lent beginning next Wednesday, I had the request for a Lenten Bible Journaling Challenge from some ladies, so here it is!

The instructions are very detailed because I want you to be successful and to overcome what it is that you are facing, so take your time with this. You have the whole week to complete the challenge but I highly suggest you get started today and finish it up by Sunday so you can be prepared to begin this next week when Lent starts on February 10th.

Read Matthew 19:26, John 16:33, Romans 8:37, 1 John 5:4, and Luke 1:37. Meditate on these words, write out the verses for yourself, highlight them in your Bible, write them on the tablet of your heart.

Instructions for the Lenten study:

  1. Take time to seek the Lord in your quiet place. If you are not sure what that looks like, check out this article. You can read it by clicking here.
  2. Ask God where He would like to be made strong in your weakness. What is it in your life that He would like to release you from? A toxic relationship? Poor self-image? Emotional eating?
  3. Once you have decided what you are going to give to God, it is time to make a plan. Start by reading Philippians 4:4-9.
  4. When the desire to think about what you’ve given up arises, what are you going to think about instead? What would fit the description of Philippians 4:8? List 3 things you can focus on instead of what you’ve given up. These can be truths from the Bible, blessings to say over other people (this is especially important to do  if you’ve chosen to forgive some who has wronged you, or to do for yourself if you are giving up poor self-esteem), or simply the fact that you choose Jesus.
  5. If you have a journaling Bible, turn to Philippians 4 and write in a short sentence what you are giving up and the three things you are going to replace it with. If you don’t have a journaling Bible, then write Philippians 4:8 on your paper with your short sentence. Date it also.
  6. Then, I want you to picture what you are going to be like one the other side of this challenge. Maybe you’ll see yourself as beautiful, maybe you’ll feel compassion for the person who wronged you, maybe you will feel healthier, etc. I want you to write the goal at the bottom of this Bible page or journaling page.
  7. Next, ask God for a word picture to illustrate the goal of your personal challenge. Also, pray for a picture to illustrate the outcome. If you are giving Jesus your self-esteem issues, then illustrate something beautiful. If you are forgiving someone, illustrate a freed heart. If you are choosing God as your source of comfort versus food, then illustrate what that means to you!
  8. When our Lenten Study is over, we are going to come back to this page. We will write where we are at in our journey of overcoming. If you have taken the time you need in your quiet place with Him, then hopefully you will have overcome it!

DSC04776 (2)Make sure to keep space on the next page in your journaling Bible so you can journal about how you overcame your challenge, how you drew near to God in your quiet place, and how He filled you up.

Whatever it is that you are facing my friend, know that you are not alone. The Holy Spirit is our helper (John 14:16). The Amplified version says this about the Holy Spirit: “The Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby.” He is everything you need to overcome this challenge.
